2020 Update: The Blog, A New Book, & Beyond!

Hey everybody! I am writing to you from New York City **on my 50th birthday** in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic 2020. We are on pause here in the city, staying home to save lives. I am writing from my kitchen, where I really love to be, and hoping you are all safe and healthy.

While the reason we are here is pretty unbelievable, we are here nevertheless, so I am trying to use this time productively. I am cooking from my book, Wait, That’s Vegan?! and using whatever ingredients I have on hand. [See the Sicilian Pizza up top made in a quarter sheet pan using my pizza dough recipe, the red sauce from my book, Miyoko’s Mozzarella, and Crimson x Clove Pizza Party spice mix and the meatless meatballs from my book and macaronis below.]

My daily life has changed now that my husband and son are at home with me, as I am sure your routine has changed too. Before all of this started, my schedule was pretty much the same every day: school drop off, yoga, snack, writing, developing recipes, making myself some elaborate lunch that most likely my husband and son wouldn’t eat, school pick up, soccer, dinner…you get the idea.

These days, it feels like I am running a restaurant, making breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner for all three of us, and a lot of times on different schedules. Don’t get me wrong, I love being in the kitchen, but now it is a totally different thing. I am cooking, prepping, organizing the refrigerator, moving the freshest food to the front, storing leftovers and prepped foods for future meals in the back, and monitoring my pantry of dry goods and frozen stash. I am not buying excessively, and I am especially not buying ingredients that only I like, which I often do, when I am working on new recipes. My husband and son love what they love and that is that, which has a little bit limited my ability to post new and creative recipes up here on the blog. So, you probably won’t see much from me here in the foreseeable future. But, you can still find me – on Instagram and YouTube.

First, Instagram. I post over there almost every day, kind of like I used to post here in the early days, before Instagram changed the world of food blogging. I post what I am eating, what I am working on, and fun Instagram stories from my kitchen. So, if you are not already following me, please click on over and hit the FOLLOW button.

And…

During this pandemic, my husband suggested that I make videos of me cooking. We rigged up my son’s music stand and my iPhone in my tiny city kitchen and, with some editing help from my son, I have made a bunch of videos. They are posted on Instagram, but my son helped me create a YouTube channel, too. So, please head over there to watch my videos and SUBSCRIBE to my channel.

And finally, for some other EXCITING NEWS!! In the middle of all of this, I signed a contract to write another book! It is going to be a kind of intro-to-vegan-cooking book in the format of A to Z, ingredients organized by the letters of the alphabet and all of the fun and delicious ways we can turn them into plant-based goodness.ย

It will be coming out in the spring of 2021. I have already started writing and creating recipes and can’t wait to see them come to life. If you are interested in testing recipes, please fill out the form below.

Until my next post, be safe, be healthy, and know that we will get through this!

  1. Congratulations on the new book contract! I am loving your recently published one. All the best to you and your family.

  2. Happy Birthday, Lisa! Cooking for one is a challenge, too, but I feel I am more adventurous working with what I already have. Yesterday I was weeding (I live upstate a bit) and instead of tossing the garlic mustard (invasive, and just now appearing) I chopped and sauteed the leaves with garlic and added to pasta sauce. It was yummy! Congrats on all your achievements!
