I spied this at the health food store – A Matter of Health in NYC – this week and we are in love. What a great idea!
Bee Free Honee is made with organic apple juice concentrate, water, non-GMO/vegan cane sugar, and lemon juice.
Vegan!
Safe for children!
Good for the planet!
And most importantly, the bees!
Not only do I love this product, but I love the story behind it. The creator, Katie Sanchez, was in the kitchen and “…one day in 1999, while trying to make a less sweet version of apple jelly and being a novice with jelly, Katie accidentally created something that was definitely not jelly. Not wanting to be wasteful, she ‘canned’ it only to discover in the morning, that what she had was honee!
Years later when she heard about the decline of the bee population, she asked herself two questions, could she reproduce her honee and was there a market for it? She went back to the kitchen and after much trial and error she was able to say that she had a solid recipe. Four years later, when she entered the market she did so with a website, a distributor, and three stores that carried her product. We are excited to see what is to come and we are thrilled that you are along for the ride.
Bee Free Honee is made in Minnesota and using strictly US apples. The bottles and caps are from Stillwater, MN, the boxes from Golden Valley, MN, and the printing is done in Minneapolis. I strive to keep things local and as green as possible. That hasn’t always been easy and it is usually a little more expensive, but I have made personal commitment to be an asset to my community and to this world in any way I can, so I see it as a non-negotiable deal.”
We are right there with you Katie! We are happy to support your product and more importantly thrilled to eat it. My son is now eating multiple apples a day with a few dips into honee and I can’t wait to start using it in my recipes.
And p.s., can you get that Chocolate Honee over to my health food store ASAP!
This looks like a great honey alternative… and it is indeed a lovely story behind it 🙂
Can you get it in Canada?
i don’t know…check out their website store locater!
Thanks! It doesn’t look like it’s in Canada at the moment, but I will mention it to my local health food store.
great. also, contact katie through the website and let her know you want it! we vegans have to stick together and make noise!
That sounds awesome. It’s nice to have an agave alternative!
Neat idea! I would love to try this Honee!
You should totally try it if you can find it. It is fantastic. I am working on tons of ideas…BBQ sauce, honey cake, baklava!!!
It is better than agave because we can dip apples right into it. It stands on it’s own. I’m not sure I will be buying agave again!!
