The 12 Grapes of Luck: Happy New Year!

IMG_3601

Tonight we will eat 12 grapes at midnight. Ok, let’s face it, we won’t be up at midnight. We will be eating our grapes at about 8:30.

I learned of this tradition from my friend and nutritionist Barbara Mendez. According to Barbara, “this Spanish tradition dates back to 1895 and is thought to have originated in Madrid. It symbolizes 12 months of prosperity, health and happiness for the coming year.”

Happy 2014 to everyone! Thank you for reading my blog. I love communicating with you and hearing your suggestions, challenges, and recipes. I look forward to creating new blogs this year too. I’m going to be reinventing many recipes oil free (e.g., tempeh bacon and the vegan chocolate cake formula), so stay tuned!

To be vegan is to have reverence for all life. Let’s all continue to eat, drink, think and dress vegan. As always, I wish for everyone:

Abundance
Blessings
Gratitude
Happiness
Health
Hugs
Kisses
Love
Peace
Prosperity
Safety
Service
Smiles

A toast: To our health, the health and welfare of the animals, and that of the planet.

And now a request. Consider donating NOW to help our friends at Catskill Animal Sanctuary (donations will be doubled by a generous donor through tomorrow) and Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary.

My family and I wish you all the best for 2014!

  1. Aw man! I forgot about that and always wanted to try it!! Next year will be the year I finally try that tradition. 🙂

Let me know how it turns out.

I’d LOVE to give to that organization…but, at present, I have nothing to give. Dang…though that is so generous and I hope they raise lots!

May the year ahead shower you in blessings!
