Last year I posted the list of the In today’s New York Times, Mark Bittman posted an article called, “Pesticides: Now More than Ever,” with a link to the EWG’s 2012 Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce. They have added 2 more items to the Dirty Dozen, now the Dirty Dozen +.
The Dirty Dozen + is a list of the 12 + 2 fruits and vegetables that have the MOST pesticide residue so whenever possible, buy organic:
1 – apples
2 – celery
3 – strawberries
4 – peaches
5 – spinach
6 – imported nectarines
7 – imported grapes
8 – bell peppers
9 – potatoes
10 – domestic blueberries
11 – lettuce
12 – cucumbers
+
13 – kale
14 – green beans
The Clean 15 is a list of the 15 fruits and vegetables that have the LOWEST pesticide residue so if you can’t find organic, they are still pretty good:
1 – onions
2 – corn
3 – pineapple
4 – avocado
5 – asparagus
6 – peas
7 – mango
8 – eggplant
9 – domestic cantaloupe
10 – kiwi
11 – cabbage
12 – watermelon
13 – sweet potatoes
14 – grapefruit
15 – mushrooms
